About Visalia

Early Visalia was nowhere near the large town or community it is today. The growth that really kicked off modern Visalia was established in the California Gold Rush, when a considerable amount of gold was discovered in the Kern River. In 1859, John Butterfields Overland Stage from St. Louis, Missouri to San Francisco included Visalia as a stop, and that helped to bring a considerable amount of people to this California town as well. The agricultural community built up in this particularly fertile stretch of the San Joaquin Valley, and it’s been agriculture that has supported the region ever since.
